Juziah - Dear Summer (Official Music Video)

Dear Summer, I love the way you shine.
I don’t do relationships but know this summer mine.
I’ve been out here patient, waitin’ for you to arrive.
And them boys they be playing girl I tell you all the time.
— Juziah (Dear Summer)

There’s nothing better than good weather, I am reminded every day we get closer to summer. Today Juziah disrupts any late spring cold fronts with another smooth record, hitting us with some subtle heat for another effortless audio rep. This freshly released visual, by the Biggest Little City MC, is titled “Dear Summer.” A short film directed by ShotByCammJBoyd. The song starts with a cozy sample over gentle keys that leave plenty of space for Juziah to pen his open letter to the upcoming season. There’s a few things he has to get off his chest before trying to win over the love of summer’s persona. A time of many happenings, creatively. Juziah refuses to be another card lost in the shuffle. This summer, things will change and the presence will be felt. He has been working year round to prove his mastery of the craft. This is not something he picked up overnight, there were countless minutes, days, and years spent working at this. Juziah does not take lightly to people who are not as invested, saturating the scene and making noise without really saying anything.

“I mean really tho c’mon Summer. I’ll do it all for ya, I’ll kill the Spring, kill the Winter, and the Fall for ya. I make them boys get in line then make them fall for ya.”

Notice the three individuals that met their demise in this video, in regards to the quote above. A cleverly calculated play by the director for this scene.

You can expect this Summer for Juziah to light that fire under some folks. The metaphorical precedent has been set up perfectly with the visuals bringing the words to life as he fights to save the lady, Summer. The use of personification cleverly describes the way he displays his craft, his motivation, and dedication to it. If no one would be willing to step up to save the Summer, then just know Juziah is with all that. If anyone is going to be in his way, then he just gotta show and prove when it really matters. I get the the hint that Juziah never been one to use yesterday’s score in today’s ball game. The foreshadowing sprinkled towards the concluding portion of the track suggests that this is his declaration of his commitment. The commitment to bring consistent content for the listener’s this Summer, in a way that has integrity, is fearless, and unstoppable. There’s no force that can stop him from carving his name in the cement. This is what he was built to do, to inspire and strive to set the highest standard. Even if it were to kill him. The late, great Charles Bukowski described it as such, “find what you love and let it kill you.” We can expect much the same for Juziah and his pride for his pen. Now that the statement has been made, the music can continue to do what he designed it to do. Speak for itself.

Young Bolt - Chain Gang Featuring Lil Uce (Official Audio)

The underground scene in Reno, NV has been super active lately. Amongst the huge variety of styles the city has to offer, not too many have the sauce like Young Bolt and Lil Uce. The two spitters recently linked up on the record “Chain Gang” which was produced by @jujumadeit98. I have a hunch I will find myself playing this one on a late night mission in the future. Both Young Bolt and Lil Uce bless this beat with their street poetry describing a different side of the city. Paying respects to those who might be down right now as a result of what they had to do to get by. By sharing their perspective and what goes on in their section, they are contributing to the eclectic efforts from the collective of creatives blossoming into the scene. This record is just a pinch of the effort and work produced from everyone involved in this record. If you love good street music, slapping beats, and icy melodies then this may the vibe for you. Play this one everywhere when you’re sliding. Trust you won’t be able to stop. Don’t believe me though. Just watch.

Khase & dARTh Tone - Lemon Water (Official Audio)

With the winds of season’s change upon us, it’s easy to get caught up in the increasingly improving weather conditions after a few days of cold front. The appealing things in life can be taken as a premonition for the humbling conditions life is liable to throw at you. Life is suffering. To find peace is to remove yourself from attachment. Material items, friends/family, and beliefs are all a source of self inflicted torment. To not acknowledge this, is disrespectful to your vehicle and the collective conscience that fuels your drive. The duality of your conscience and your mind is pivotal to the overall navigation of your path. Some times are better than others but that’s life. You do with what you were given even if you do not have much. Take the lemons life grew for you and put them in your water then keep it pushing. By stepping away from your ego, and denying the influence of external stimuli to enter, you condition yourself to endure what comes your way. Its the perpetual balance of taking the good with the bad and the bad with the good. “I was taught to wether whatever the weather would bring,” were the words spoken by Khase that really sparked the embers of change in my mind. A sentiment revitalized years later in this record with dARTh Tone titled “Lemon Water.”

Tone kicks off the track with a heavy verse, speaking on some of the fires that shaped his mind into the weapon that it is. Speaking on his family tree, the dynamic between the different sides of his, and being able to find closure with how things played out. When it comes to his craft, he bleeds into the canvas with his pen. Being skeptical of what he has to say can be equated to disrespecting who he is as a man. The first verse is heavy on the puns, wordplay, and metaphors that bring Tone’s words to life. Continuing on the portrait set by Tone, comes Khase with a posthumous return to share some perspective with the souls on Earth. Khase, was familiar with hardships and having your world flip in an instant. Seeing things from the opposite side of the coin was a specialty of his. Leaning on vices may have been the easiest escape from the harsh realities for Khase. Substance and substances is the mixture for this verse. Incredible syllable dribbles and multiple flow switches really show the skill Khase possessed. Questioning everything and finding your passion ultimately are the most useful coping mechanisms for Khase’s collection of lemons. “I’m in a time-lapse till my mind flips. It taste like bliss or is it live Brisk?” Without giving too many spoilers on the gems the late MC left for us, go run that verse back multiple times and you’ll find a new twist to the words said. A difficult feat to execute on any track. In conclusion, admitting flaws and showing your scars is nothing short of difficult. However, by doing so, you are correctly following the recipe of how to make your own Lemon Water aka Honest Tea. Enjoy.
