OG David James - ROTTWEILER (Official Music Video)

I was hella broke, ain’t no money piling.
That’s why I’m coming in the game like a Rottweiler.
To make it in my city, that is not common.
See I been rocking 5 plus, I’m a Godfather.
— OG David James (Rottweiler)

What’s good y’all? The last week saw some heavy hitters out the regional scene release new music for their listeners to enjoy. This forecast pertains to the Oxnard born, Reno raised spitter who goes by OG David James. While teasing an upcoming project, David let’s go of a single along with a set of visuals for a track titled “ROTTWEILER.” It’s been a consistent year of releases for the young artist and this release reminds us that he’s not letting off the gas anytime soon. The Chech “the Alien” directed visuals are some of David’s best yet.

The first verse, David comes in true form, speaking on personal experiences directly through the heart. Still healing from the repercussions of his complicated past, David consciously works on personal growth daily. Being upfront and honest has become his greatest strength in taking control of his life. The first few bars that start the song tell us just that. Outside of his own personal hurdles, the environment he was brought up was not the most encouraging or healthy. Much like everywhere, the ones you grow together with tend to love you more if they can see your flaws coming through in your lifestyle. People don’t really love you like they say they do but it’s good, you need people like that to remind you that no one but you will give you the drive.

After taking time to sharpen his sword, David approaches every record with a new fire. All the support and help that his genuine people give us appreciated. Moving from his city where all his relationships were made was a daunting step and made him realize who was really there for him and who wasn’t. He doesn’t take it personal, he peeps what he needs to and focuses on working for what he wants in life. “If I gave your ass the time, tell me why the fuck you lie. I was in the next state, know it’s like a plane away. But you know it hard when you putting 40 inside a week.”

”They knew from the city where I started repping. They knew me for the old me, I was adolescent. I told them I was hungry, they ain’t get the message. So I carried all the L’s and turned them into lessons.”

Ever since a much younger age, David has had his eyes of the goal. Not sure how he was going to make it or what path it would require but he knew that’s what he wanted. Focus is much harder to come across in these times, not much is different from now and then. With not too many people who believed in that same vision, it sparked something in David. Most would be discouraged and give up on their dream but that’s not the case here. Over time, once he built up the skills, David took everything he learned from his home and made the leap of faith to a bigger arena.

Since he left, he took off running and hasn’t looked back since. Doing everything he can to network and elevate the craft, all while representing from the city that helped him grow into the man he is today. There’s nothing he can to repay everyone for the love (and hate) except for make the city look good everywhere he goes. There’s no ill will or hard feelings, he left to open his avenues and get them room he needs to get to the next level of artistry. So to everyone who knew him before, just know he hasn’t changed but he isn’t trying to stay the same. He hopes you do the same and to take his journey to help inspire you to begin yours. Remember, if you’re hungry for it, no one will remind you to eat or save you a plate. It’s all on you to get that for yourself.

The record is a short one but very telling of David’s head space right now. He’s in a good place and wants others to always push themselves to go for what you want. Life is too short to be hesitant, you got to approach it like a Rottweiler. Big dogs need big bowls, take what’s meant for you and don’t let anyone else be the reason why you don’t reach your potential.
