BigWigLTD - FIRE EP (Official Audio)
What’s good y’all? Heateorologist Emo G reporting in my FIRST EVER published article! Big shouts to the team at Weather Watcher for this opportunity and I look forward to providing more coverage on the region in the coming months. I’ve been a huge hiphop fan my entire life and have a wide range of styles and knowledge of the art form that I hope to bring to the team!
I’m bringing you an update on the latest fire raging across the sound banks of Reno. The perpetrator of this latest disturbance on our radar is BigWigLTD with his new release, FIRE!
BigWigLTD has been putting in work for years under various alias’s, doing dozens of shows in the region and releasing nearly 100 tracks as smOke skreeZy. In April of this year, he decided to switch the style up, and dropped “FOOD” with Richie Panelli. A stunning feast for the eyes, where they riff on how they enjoy women in the way they enjoy fine dining. That scrumptious sonic landscape paved the way for this latest release, FIRE. This project was recorded and produced entirely at BigWigLTD’s home studio, known as Cash Hill BLVD. Be sure to tap in if you’re feeling the sound of these tracks.
Let’s get into the music! Produced by aL Bakwurdz, FIRE sets off with "CHKN", letting you know that BigWigLTD is all about his business, and soon the booming drums get your head nodding. Wig comes in with a laid back, melodic flow, taking you on a journey through his universe, seamlessly integrating imagery from the MCU and Star Wars, along with sky high goals, setting the tone with, “In ya city, chicken flippin’, higher than the ceiling, tripping, tryna get a milli every milli-second.” The track weaves its way through clever wordplay and punchlines, showcasing the two decades of honing the craft that The Wig has put in. By the end of the track, we are welcomed to the Blotter Room, and invited to come through.
As the words of “CHKN” fade, the strings of “Hymn” begin, and you are asked, “Do you really feel free?” In today’s climate, it’s a fair question. The Wig retorts with, “Can’t let anybody see the real me. Been riding filthy, tryna get clean,” implying that he is trapped in the life he’s created. Stuck between addiction and aspiration, being the hero and the villain, all while trying to attain the most precious gifts life has to give, that money can’t buy. “Gimme all this shit, higher consciousness. Living prosperous, exotic dishes, different continents.” The ending results in The whaLe scaLe letting go of his old life, habits, and homies. The beat rides out on an orchestra of chords and that knock only aL Bakwurdz can provide.
FIRE comes equipped with a radio edit, instrumental, and vocal versions. The Wiiig also released some supporting content, “Behind The Boards”, with me, Emo G, presented by Cash Hill BLVD, if you wish to dive deeper into the meaning behind the bars.
Overall, the four minutes or so spent in the world of BigWigLTD and aL Bakwurdz is sure to make your head nod, and also make you reflect. It’s a great start to the next phase of BigWigLTD, and I personally can’t wait to see what’s next. Fun yet introspective, I have a feeling FIRE is about to spread to weather systems across the region.
Until next time, this is Emo G, signing off
